The bandana – the of the moment accessory that won’t break the bank

29 August, 2015

Milan Fashionweek FW 2015 day 3

Men's Fashionweek Milan 2015, day 1

I was first introduced to the bandana in the late ’80s, the go-to accessory of rock pin-up boy Axl Rose, aka Guns N’ Roses.  Of course it originally heralded from the great symbol of the American West – the cowboy.  Jump forward to 2015 and the timeless accessory will update your wardrobe for under $10.  Mine cost $5 from an op shop, found on a recent shopping trip.  Take your cue from these ladies and style your bandana with a big dose of individual flair and rock it whenever you feel like it.  Head over to my pinterest for more bandana styling ideas.

The humble white sneaker

I never quite got into the gym-to-street look, and kept my runners for, well, running.  Cue the arrival of the white sneaker onto the fashion scene, which is now being sported by pretty much  every fashionista – as the shoe of choice.

The look is pared back, clean and simple.   You can work these babies back with anything from jeans and a tee, to a pretty frock and even a relaxed trouser.  The only rule is the whiter the better.  The old-school Kiwi Sport Whitener will be your new best friend in your quest to keep your white kicks in pristine condition.

If you haven’t already jumped on the white sneaker bandwagon prepare to get comfortable while feeling super stylin’.  See my picks below at a range of price points.

The Gladiator – how I’m wearing it

4 April, 2015

The Gladiator sandal is certainly having a moment.  I love how it grounds a feminine outfit.  I think the knee high styles are fabulous but decided to invest in a lower pair that I think will have longevity beyond the current season.

Drawing inspiration from fashion icon Jane Birkin’s bohemian style and Chloe’s spring summer 15 free spirited muse, I’m wearing mine with a mini white cotton lace embroidered dress, paired back with a vintage necklace and silver bracelet from an old Mania Mania collection.

In keeping with the relaxed aesthetic I’d suggest throwing on a leather biker jacket to give this look a bit more mileage as it starts to cool down.

I’d love to hear how you are styling yours.

I loved the looks on the street during Fall 15 fashion month.   Love it or loathe it, fur made a big appearance on and off the runways from furry boots at A Detacher to fur sashes at Creatures of the Wind and fur stoles worn belted at Michael Kors.  I love how this lady wears hers to add texture to a neutral outfit and the belt somehow pulls the look together and makes it modern.   What do you think of fur be it real or faux? Would you wear it?

And how amazing is the knitted ensemble in tones of beige?  The trench is always elegant, and I love the crossover detail.  The skivvy continues to reign supreme as a key layering piece and the sequinned version is amazeballs.

Are you keeping up with the Fall 2015 Ready-To-Wear shows?  I’ve been a frequent visitor of in the last  few weeks.  Head over to my Pinterest page for some of my favourite looks.  Meanwhile, the unexpected knitted neck warmers at Tome Fall 2015 were so good.  Their pairing with the elegant evening looks was a match a made in heaven.  The neck warmer will give your pieces traditionally reserved for after-dark the right injection of insouciant cool.  Add a military-inspired coat or jacket and you may just find that the look is versatile enough to wear during the day. Genius!  Now, where can I get one or how can I make one?  Suggestions are welcome.
